The 2012 Cox Plate odds of undefeated colt Proisir have been slashed after his dominant win in the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) at Newcastle yesterday.
The colt destroyed the strong field to win by five and three quarter lengths and left trainer Gai Waterhouse and jockey Nash Rawiller gob smacked.
“He made his own luck, travelled comfortably and what was impressive was his last furlong,” Rawiller said.
“I think he’s a very promising horse. He really took the next step today and came through it with flying colours.
“He surprised me, surprised everyone how he let go.”
Waterhouse was equally impressed with the win but wouldn’t confirm what her future plans are for the son of Choisir.
“He can win the Spring Champion Stakes,” Waterhouse said.
“I might take him to Melbourne after that, he might go for a spell, he could win anything in the autumn.”
Proisir’s breeder and owner Mario Falcone said he would back Waterhouse’s judgment for the future plans of the horse.
“We’ll take it one step at a time, do whatever the boss lady wants. We appreciate Gai’s knowledge,” Falcone said.
Bookmakers slashed the 2012 Cox Plate odds of Proisir after the race despite Waterhouse not mentioning the race in her future plans for the horse.
He is now on the sixth line of the 2012 Cox Plate betting market at bookmaker.com.au and is priced at $12.
If Proisir runs in the 2012 Cox plate he will face off against stablemate and fellow undefeated colt Pierro.
The 2011 Golden Slipper winner is the favourite in Cox Plate betting markets and is priced at $5 at bookmaker.com.au.
The Waterhouse stable will also have champion mare More Joyous in the race.
